Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the United States. She's worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentaries and analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has won prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that explores the representations of females in popular culture narratives. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular media. In addition she aims to create awareness about online harassment targeted at women and those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in Political and Social Thinking from York University, is a popular public speaker. She has spoken at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She was interested in the gender issue and feminist movements since a young time. In 2009, when she was in university she started the Feminist Frequency site. As of 2009, this determined young woman was targeted on the internet for her website series on gender in videogames. This attack was not enough to halt her. In fact, it made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critique. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards to recognize her significant contributions to the world of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency as an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in popular culture narratives.
